The grass is always greener on the other side

Yesterday, YB Tony Phua, a representative from DAP came to my college for a speech.
Surprisingly, what he said that day, is EXACTLY what I have been thinking throughout my form 5. Until right now... I am still very excited and inspired about being patriotic ! XD

Mr Tony got ASEAN scholarship and did his O levels and A levels in Singapore,
then another scholarship to further his studies at Oxford University, UK.
He studies in Economics, Philosophy, and Politics.
After graduating from Oxford, he came back to have his own company in KL,
after that, his company's business got better and it was public listed in Singapore,
he then became a millionaire.

Till here, you must be thinking, WOW.
It's like everyone's so called ideal life and what most of our parents have been hoping to see in their children.

But, the story does not end here.
The most inspiring part is, he came back to Malaysia.
Yes, he sold off his Multinational Company in Singapore,
just to come back to Malaysia to be a politician.
Instead of a comfortable life in Singapore with the well being of his company,
he chose a life that SEEMED to be way more miserable, such as getting himself into troubles of being charged in court, joining the rallies and so on..

I am here , not to promote DAP or what so ever.
My point is, while everyone is saying the grass in greener on the other side,
there are actually people that are willing to forgo the short term high salary and comfortable life,
just for a place called, our home, our country, Malaysia.

Many parents tell us today, " Son / Daughter, you know, you should study really hard, so that you can get a scholarship for overseas studies, if no scholarship also never mind, papa mama will fund your studies in overseas, then get a job in overseas, then stay there. Higher pay, better place, and don't come back "

Indeed, it is undeniably true.

Yes, working overseas you get so much higher wages due to the higher currency.
Yes, building a family there your children might get a better education.
Yes, Malaysia is having some problem now and many people have lost their hope.

We are blessed enough to have good education backgrounds and foundation, we are fortunate enough to be exposed to the importance of study, we are lucky enough to be equipped with some leadership skills and thinking abilities.

But, take a moment to think.
What about the people that are less fortunate.

DO YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE MANY MALAYSIANS DO NOT GO TO UNIVERSITY?

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY NATIVES ARE STILL BEING DISCRIMINATED DUE TO THEIR IGNORANCE ?

Yes, we were fed from this land, we drink the water from the resources here, we grow up in this country, we learn many things from here and our love ones are still in this place. Yet, we contribute all our intelligence, our compassion, our youth , in OTHER PEOPLE'S LAND.

Perhaps you will say now, ' Not that I don't want to stay here, but there is no opportunity.'
This is what Mr Tony says, ' there is always opportunity, you just have to look for it'
Again,
I am not promoting or being a hard core fan of Mr Tony or DAP,
just that what he says, is so true.

We can always contribute in what ever we are planning to do.

If you want to be a doctor, at some point of time in your life, I wish you can consider to come back to Malaysia, to help these people -- that lined up from days to nights in the government hospital just for a ward and a doctor who is kind enough to help them -- even they are actually having stroke and it is very urgent.

If you want to be a lawyer, please do consider to help these innocent people, that are being bullied by the rich ones, and have no defense of the legal system just because they are ignorant and poor.

If you want to be an engineer, please do consider to help our country to build better roads so that we can have lesser traffic jams @@

If you want to be an entertainer, film producer, or any mass communicator, through the power of media and your creativity, please do help this country to realize that skin color does not matter, that we are all Malaysians.

If you want to be an ecologist, yes, Malaysia has plentiful of resources, please help to preserve them. If we have no one with a pure heart to help us with that, even the most blessed heritage will be a pathetic garbage dump.

If you want to be a teacher, please help the children to be able to stand for their rights, please help the children to know that this is our home, and this home which is having a bit of trouble now, needs everybody's help. Please help the children to know that there is hope in this place.Cultivate souls that are pure and full of righteousness.Nurture their creativity and imagination so that they are not destroyed by the reality.

If you want to be a good, pure and wise politician. Well, Malaysia needs you the most.

At the end of this long and winding post,
I am going to end with what Mr Tony and I believe everyone wish to see'
that is 30 years from now, when we are parents, this is what we are going to tell our children,

" Son or Daughter, you know, you should study really hard, so that you can get a place in local universities, if cannot get also never mind, papa mama will have to fund your studies in overseas, then after you graduate, you better quickly come back to Malaysia, because, Malaysia is a good place now."

You may say because Tony is a politician, he is good at brain washing.
Take your time to think about it, what he says,if it is is true.

Malaysia, is our home.

So, ya, the grass is greener on the other side, but we can always import the grass back here =)
